Experience in one to one coaching

As part of the Career Decisions/CDT team who have successfully coached over 400 School Principals, John has successfully coached school principals from a selection of schools. Coachees include leaders from DEIS, rural, primary and secondary, community and educate together schools.
Following a successful career as head of operational and commercial functions in the business world, John transitioned his career in 2003 to retrain as an Executive and Leadership Coach. With his prior business experience now coupled with his formal coach qualifications, he works pragmatically as a coach and thought partner with business leaders. For the past four years he has brought these coaching skills and practices into the educational realm, coaching both school principals and school teams. He sees a lot of commonality between the needs of leaders in both areas and believes that his diversity of perspective, adds to the dynamic, of meeting the challenges facing school principals and teams, in complex and unpredictable environments.
John’s style in building a quality relationship with his client based on trust and respect, allows for a depth of understanding to emerge, that facilitates developmental growth. It is this change in awareness that enables a wider range of choices to become available to deal with the many issues arising for school leaders and teams. The challenge of complexity requires a response of adaptability in our perception beyond our normal conventional reactions. Marcel Proust sums up this wisdom of adaptability well in saying “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes”.
It is the quality of our response that will determine our effectiveness as leader. John provides an independent and objective perspective giving clients a wider lens for identifying and viewing new possibilities. John is engaging, pragmatic and insightful and helps his clients to amplify their natural strengths to achieve their goals.
He creates a safe and confidential coaching space which facilitates reflection, exploration of ideas, sharing of learning and identification of actions leading to goal attainment.

John is an astute advisor who helps clients unlock their potential and develop their own capacities to sustain them after the coaching programme has ended.
